finished a GOOD book

Last night I finished reading a REALLY good book: Onward Crispy Shoulders by Mary Perry. The book is about an Alaskan with Down syndrome, the author's brother Jim. His parents were homesteaders in Anchor Point, Alaska. They didn't know that Jim had Down syndrome for quite a long time, but they treated him pretty much the same after they did find out. The whole story was just NICE -- the family was nice, Jim was nice, his life was nice, his community was nice. It's quite refreshing to read about a real-life story in which people are supportive and encouraging to people with disabilities. Of course, the end was sad because Jim died; but his sister pointed out the joy in even that sadness -- he's in Heaven, not just because he was mentally retarded and probably couldn't completely understand the theology of salvation, but also because he did understand that he loved God and wanted to follow everything that he was taught from the Bible. This book gave me so much hope and encouragement!
